Sound Wavelength Calculator — Frequency to Wavelength

Calculate the wavelength of a sound wave from its frequency. Accounts for air temperature.

Default 20°C (room temperature)

How We Calculate This

The wavelength of a sound wave is the physical distance between successive compressions (or rarefactions) in the air. It is determined by the speed of sound and the frequency of the wave.

The formulas

Speed of sound: v = 331.3 + 0.606 × T (where T is temperature in °C)

Wavelength: λ = v / f (where f is frequency in Hz)

Period: T = 1 / f (the time for one complete cycle)
