Speed of Sound Calculator — Temperature & Humidity Correction

Calculate the speed of sound in air at different temperatures and humidity levels.

How We Calculate This

Speed of sound (dry air) = 331.3 + 0.606 × T

where T is the temperature in degrees Celsius.

The humidity correction is small — humid air is slightly less dense than dry air, increasing the speed by up to about 0.6% at high temperatures and 100% humidity.

For audio delay calculations, the time per metre is: 1000 / speed (m/s) = ms per metre
